What is the CTC Tourist Competition? CTC logo

The CTC Tourist Competition is designed to add the spice of competition to an activity we all enjoy, namely riding our bikes on club events. The basic idea of the competition is that riders are awarded points for each event completed successfully. There are more points on offer for riding a wide variety of events, for achievement in competitive events, and for events outside your own local area.

The events cover all aspects of cycling, from relatively short rides of 50 km to the long overnight rides of 300, 400 or even 600 km. Many of these long rides are also in the Audax UK calendar. There are also fun events such as sports days and treasure hunts and the more serious events such as map reading contests and hill climbs. Finally there are off road rides for those who prefer unmade tracks rather than tarmac. As we are a touring club, there are no racing events, and everyone who completes standard rides in the alloted time receives equal credit.

Twelve events are required for maximum points, but all riders who successfully complete at least ten events in a season will receive a certificate and badge, with trophies and medallions going to the individual and team winners. Each rider who scores 50 or more points will be sent a results sheet, which lists all riders who entered at least four events (last year there were over 500 of these!).

The Tourist Competition is open to all CTC members, and you do not have to be a regular club rider to join in. The full programme of events is on this web site, and is also published in Cycle at the beginning of the season. There are activities all over the country, so you should find something to interest you in your local area.

The season runs from 1 March to 31 October each year. Events may be organised by your own Local Group, another Local Group, or cycling clubs affiliated to the CTC. Nationally advertised events are also included in the Tourist Competition programme. Riders who take part in a listed event are automatically entered into the competition. There is no entry fee above any that may be charged for the event itself, and no registration procedure for the rider to go through, as all details are looked after automatically by event organisers.

If you are a new CTC member, or thinking of participating in events for the first time, why not give the Tourist Competition a try by taking part in one or two events, or even the full twelve. Just contact the organiser listed against the event you are interested in to find out the full details.

If you have any further questions on the Tourist Competion, please see our Frequently Asked Questions page, or if that does not provide you with an answer, go to our contacts page.

Happy cycling!
