| DATC 2007 - Co-Ordinator's Report | ![]() |
The competition in 2007 will be remembered for the closeness of all the results. The tiebreak rule was applied in three instances. This produced a challenge to the overall result, which delayed the publication of the result whilst the necessary procedures to resolve the situation were carried out.
After an absence of two years Kim Suffolk is back at the top with a double cup win (First overall and First male veteran) very closely followed by Alan Wratten, both had the maximum score possible. The third placing was a triangular affair and John Hamblett came out on top after the tiebreak rule had been applied. Mike Batchelor mounted a serious challenge throughout the year but due to health problems was unable to sustain it in the last weeks of the season.
Richard Delf retains the junior (boy) title for another year with a score down 1 point on last year. Amy Juden is the highest placed junior (girl) for the first time. Both were well positioned in the main competition with 100 and 99 points respectively.
South Bucks. DA finally has their hands on the team prize. For many years in the past they have been the leading team right through the season only to find themselves overtaken at the last moment. This year it all depended on the end of season events and it resulted in the second highest score in the team section and the closest of finishes.
Chester & North Wales DA after 3 years as the team trophy holders are in second place beaten by one point. The untimely death of Graham Mills in early 2007 robbed the DA of one of its main driving forces in the DATC. His enthusiasm and drive in so many aspects of cycling is greatly missed.
Sue Ingold has made it a particularly good year for the South Bucks. DA by adding to the triumph of the team award by taking the two top awards in the women's section.
The new season will see several changes to the competition. A new title for the DATC "CTC Tourist Competition" and a revised set of rules, which will be available at the end of January on the competitions website. In parallel with these changes it has been decided to upgrade the Mille Miglia - details were included with mailed result sheets, and will be published here at the end of January.
Registration fees for having events in the competition have been removed and there will be much more publicity for the CTC Tourist Competition, Mille Miglia and BCQ through "Cycle", Newsnet and the CTC website.
The statistics for 2007 are as follows: 388 events organised by 42 DA`s and 12 Affiliated Clubs, 35 events were cancelled. I had to do the usual end of season chase to obtain the necessary results. 416 people completed 4 or more rides (Total No. of rides 6639).
This website is a very important part the competition. Its existence is due the work of Mark Draper who provides the total technical backup to the competition. Without his support the DATC would be very difficult operate. Thank you Mark. My thanks also to Alex Geen at CTC HQ for her assistance during the year.
The list of events will appear in the CTC magazine every two months starting with the February-March issue. The full program is available here.
The national events for 2008 are as follows: All CTC Cymru events, CTC Challenge Rides and Birthday Rides events.
Congratulations to all the trophy winners and certificate qualifiers. The certificates and badges will be distributed in the near future. Thank you to all the people who communicated with me during the year - your comments and suggestions are really useful. I hope that you all have an enjoyable year's cycling in 2008.
